Sukumar Roy was the son of Upendrakishore Roy and the father of world-famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray. There is no comparison to the wonderful literary juice that he has created in his short life of only thirty-six years. He also had an amazing talent for linguistics and he drew all the wonderful pictures.
It’s not that he was just a funny rhymer. From 1887 to 1923, in this life span of only thirty-six years, he presented various works to Bengali readers. He wrote many stories like pearls and many bright plays like crystals. Apart from that, he wrote many other essays of various kinds.
However, none of Sukumar Roy’s works were published during his lifetime. Sukumar Roy’s first published book ‘Abol Tabol’ was published on September 19, 1923. That is, exactly nine days after his death. Sukumar Roy died in September 1923.
