Meghnadavadh Kavya is the greatest creation of poet Madhusudan. It must be said that if the poet had not composed any book other than ‘Meghnadvadh Kavya’ then he would have attained immortality with the help of this Kavya. The first volume of ‘Meghnadvadh Kavye’ in Amitrakshara Chhande (free verse) was published on 4 January 1861. The main subject of this poem is the events of the Hindu epic Ramayana. And there are also impressions of various foreign epics.
Swami Vivekananda commented on this poem as ‘Bangla Bhashar Mukutmani (the crown jewel of the Bengali language)’.
