This day is marked as a painful and glorious memory of language movement of the Bengali people. 21st February in 1952, a lot of students did the movement and they demanded to make Bangla one of the state language of Pakistan. And there some youths were martyred in police firing on the day. So this day is marked as a Martyrs Day.
According to the decisions taken by the United Nations in 2010, the International Mother Language Day (Bhasha Divas ) is celebrated worldwide every year on February 21st.
