About the novel- Sei Somoy by Sunil Gangopadhyay

‘Sei Somoy’ (At that time) is a Bengali historical novel whose background is the society and people of the developing city of Calcutta during the nineteenth-century British rule. The author of this novel is Sunil Gangopadhyay, a renowned Indian Bengali writer. One of the main content of the novel is the Bengali Renaissance in the 19th century. The storyline of this novel is based on the renowned and social reformer characters like Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, Debendranath Tagore, Keshab Chandra Sen, David Heyer, and John Bethune.
The novel was continuously published in the ‘Desh’ Patrika. Later, ‘Anand Publishers’ in Kolkata published the novel in two volumes in 1981. An integral version of the novel was published in the same publication in 1991. The novel was honored with the Bankim Award in 1983 and the Academy Award at 1985.
